Bohol's Hidden Gem: Alona Peace Lily Studio - Your Dream Getaway Awaits!

Bohol's Hidden Gem: Alona Peace Lily Studio - My Dream Getaway (and a few hiccups!) Awaits! - A Review That's Actually Real!

Okay, buckle up buttercups, 'cause I'm about to spill the tea (and maybe a little sand) on Alona Peace Lily Studio in Bohol. They call it a "Hidden Gem," and honestly? They're not wrong, mostly. Prepare for a review that's less Travel Channel and more, well, me. Get ready for the good, the (slightly) bad, and the hilariously messy.

First Impressions & Accessibility Woes (and Wins!)

Finding the place was a minor adventure. Let's just say Google Maps isn’t always your friend in Bohol. But hey, that's part of the charm, right? Kind of. The actual location once you get there is pretty darn great. It's close enough to the action of Alona Beach (shops, restaurants, the whole shebang), but far enough that you can actually hear yourself think (and the waves, which is a serious win in my book!).

Now, let's talk Accessibility. Unfortunately, this is where I have to be brutally honest. While the website maybe hints at it (Facilities for disabled guests), the reality… is a bit… optimistic. The studio rooms themselves are okay size-wise, but getting to the rooms and around the property? Stairs. Lots and lots of stairs. So, if you're relying on a wheelchair or have mobility issues, this place might not be ideal. Major bummer. I felt a pang of sadness for others who wouldn't be able to enjoy the beauty. Accessibility score: 2/5 (room size gets a meager brownie point)

Rooms That Almost Made Me Cry (in a Good Way!)

Once I actually got into my room, it was a breath of fresh, salty air. I booked a studio, and honestly? It felt like a little slice of heaven. Think crisp, clean linens (Linens, people! Crucial.), a comfy Extra long bed (I'm tall, so, HUGE bonus!), and a Window that opens (FRESH AIR!). The Air conditioning was a godsend battling Bohol's humidity, and the Blackout curtains meant I could sleep until, like, noon (pure bliss!). The bathroom phone was hilarious, and I don't think I've ever used it, but it amused me. The Mirror and the Hair dryer, essential. The In-room safe box gave me peace of mind. There was also Free bottled water and Complimentary tea.

The Internet… Oh, the Internet.

Let's be real. We need the Internet these days. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! sounds great! But the reality? It was spotty. Sometimes great, sometimes… not so much. Working? Forget it. Streaming a movie? Might be. Checking emails? Maybe. Internet access – wireless, yes, but don't bet your livelihood on it. Internet access – LAN? I didn't even try. Maybe I should have!

Relaxation Nirvana (Mostly!)

Okay, now we're cooking with gas! The Swimming pool [outdoor] with the Pool with view was absolutely divine. Picture this: Turquoise water, swaying palms, and the sun kissing your skin. Pure, unadulterated relaxation. I spent hours just floating, reading a book, and occasionally shouting "Wooo!" when the waves crashed nearby. There's even a Sauna and Spa, so you can really pamper yourself. The Massage was… well, let's just say I've never felt so relaxed in my life. (One of my first ever body scrubs and wraps!) I didn't try out the Fitness center, which I was a bit ashamed to admit to myself. I did see it… it looked decent. Body scrub, Body wrap, Foot bath were all available.

Food, Glorious Food (With a Few Caveyats)

The restaurants here are great! There is a Poolside bar, and it's so delightful. The Asian cuisine in restaurant was delicious (yes, I tried the dumplings!). There's a Breakfast [buffet], and I spent Coffee/tea in restaurant a lot! Lots of Desserts in restaurant. They offer Vegetarian restaurant items, and I didn't find anything I didn't want to eat. The Happy hour was good! I'm not gonna lie, I overstayed my welcome a few times. The Snack bar and the Room service [24-hour] were also amazing. But I have to say, there wasn't as much variety as I would have liked. They did have A la carte in restaurant. I didn't try the Soup in restaurant. They did offer Breakfast in room which was lovely a couple of times!

Safety & Cleanliness (A+!)

Okay, this is where Alona Peace Lily Studio truly shines. During my stay, I felt incredibly safe. CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property made me feel secure. They had Security [24-hour] and Smoke alarms, as well. Every single staff member wore a mask, and they seemed genuinely committed to Hygiene certification and keeping things sparkling clean. They told me about the Daily disinfection in common areas and seemed like they really meant it (They even had Anti-viral cleaning products!)

Getting Around & Other Tidbits

  • Airport transfer: They offer this, which is a huge plus after a long flight!
  • Car park [free of charge]: Plenty of parking. Easy!
  • Taxi service: Available.
  • Concierge: Helpful and friendly.
  • Laundry service: Convenient!
  • Daily housekeeping: My room were always immaculate.
  • The Staff trained in safety protocol were so helpful!

The Quirky Bits & Imperfections

  • The decor is… let’s call it "rustic chic.” It’s charming, but there are a few mismatched elements. Think a seashell lamp next to a modern art print. It works!
  • One day, the water pressure in my shower was… let's just say, gentle. Like a butterfly's kiss.
  • I may or may not have left a half-eaten bag of chips on my balcony one day. And then may or may not have found a family of geckos enjoying it. (My bad, but hey, they're cute!)

Final Verdict: Should You Book?

Absolutely, with a few caveats. If you prioritize accessibility, look elsewhere. But if you're seeking a relaxing, beautiful escape with incredibly friendly service, yummy food, and a killer pool, Alona Peace Lily Studio is definitely worth a look. It's not perfect, but that's what makes it real. It's got heart, good vibes, and enough charm to make you forget about those occasional hiccups.

My Emotional Reaction?

I'm already itching to go back. I had such a wonderful time. I definitely had a few moments of "I'm never leaving!" and a couple of "Why is the internet so slow?!" but overall? Pure, unadulterated bliss.

Alright, buckle up buttercups, because we're diving headfirst into a Bohol bonanza from the humble, yet hopefully charming, Alona Peace Lily Studio Apartment. I'm gonna keep it real, so expect some bumps, delays, and possibly a meltdown or two. This isn’t a polished travel brochure; it’s my trip.

Day 1: Arrival, Alona Beach Bliss (and the inevitable sunburn)

  • Morning (or, let's be honest, late morning): Flight into Tagbilaran (TAG). The airport's tiny, you'll probably sweat buckets. Seriously, pack deodorant. Finding a Trike to Alona Beach… okay, negotiations commence! "Too much! No, no, less!" I'm already haggling, and I'm feeling like a local… kinda.
  • Midday (or, whenever the trike finally arrives): Arrive at Alona Peace Lily. Fingers crossed it's actually "peaceful" and that the "studio" is… well, a place to collapse after a long day. Unpack. Assess the damage on the luggage. Did the shampoo explode again? Rant about TSA.
  • Afternoon: Beach time! Sunscreen application? More like 'spray-on-and-hope-for-the-best'. First dip in the ocean! Oh. My. God. The water's like… bathwater. Perfectly warm bathwater. Immediate bliss. Start building a sandcastle, then realize I'm too old for this nonsense but do it anyway.
  • Evening: Dinner. Okay, here’s where it gets real. Finding a decent place to eat is the first challenge. Alona Beach is… vibrant. And by vibrant, I mean crammed with restaurants all trying to lure you in with grilled seafood and promises of “freshness”. I'm susceptible. Went for a seafood platter. The grilled squid was… rubbery. Heartbreak. But the sunset? Stunning. Absolutely breathtaking. Watched it with a San Miguel Light (or three). Maybe teared up a little. Don't judge.
  • Late Night (or getting sleepy because of the sun and the beer:) Stumble back to the Peace Lily. Realize the AC is either nonexistent or a small, noisy machine. Swear I'll find the remote tomorrow. Decide to sleep with the window open. Regret. Mosquitoes. Curse mosquitoes.

Day 2: Chocolate Hills, Tarsiers, and a Motorcycle Mishap (Yep, it happened)

  • Morning (or, waking up slightly hungover and covered in mosquito bites): Breakfast from a local stall. Siopao! Pretty good! Fueled up for the day ahead. Plan – rent a motorbike. I've never ridden a motorbike. What could go wrong? A lot, apparently.
  • Mid-morning: Motorbike rental. Negotiating again. The guy speaks very little English. Me, even less Cebuano. Eventually, we agree. He gives me a quick lesson. "Just… accelerate slowly." Famous last words.
  • Late Morning/Midday: THE CHOCOLATE HILLS. (This needs its own paragraph). Oh. My. God. Pictures don’t do it justice. Rolling hills, all chocolate-brown. Like nature's giant, delicious truffle factory. But the motorbike ride there? Harrowing. Slowly, slowly, but steadily. Stopped a dozen times to check Google Maps. Began to feel like a seasoned pro (as much as you can be when riding a motorcyle for the first time). The view from the viewing platform… epic. Took a million photos. Spent an hour just staring. Felt… small. In a good way. Took a selfie with a goofy grin that I would later regret.
  • Early Afternoon: The Tarsier Sanctuary. The cuteness. It’s overwhelming. Tiny, adorable primates with HUGE eyes. They look like they should be in a cartoon. Kept quiet, obeyed the rules. Felt a bit like an intruder in their sleepy world. Totally worth it to see these precious little creatures.
  • Late Afternoon/Oh God, the Motorcycle Incident: Heading back to Alona. That "slowly" part I'd mastered? Totally forgotten. Then, gravel. Then… whump. Landed on the side of the road. Motorbike on top of me. Bruised ego. Bruised knee. Thank God for helmets. Scraped myself up. Motorbike slightly damaged. Luckily only a few scratches. Cried (a little) in front of the guy. He was surprisingly understanding. "It happens, miss." He helped me up. Got the bike. Took me to a medical clinic to check up on my knee. Had a good meal to cheer up with the help of the staff in the clinic.
  • Evening: Back at the Peace Lily. Sore, but alive. Bandaged knee. The AC remote still undiscovered (and probably lost forever). Order takeout. Watch a movie on my phone. Contemplate the meaning of life. And the very real possibility of staying off motorbikes for the rest of my life.

Day 3: Island Hopping (and the Quest for Pristine Beaches)

  • Morning: Wake up. Knee still hurts, but the adrenaline rush of yesterday is fading. Decide to embrace the tourist life: Island hopping!
  • Mid-morning: Outrigger boat ride to Balicasag Island. Snorkeling! Coral reefs! Fish! Lost my flippers. Found them again. Almost choked on salt water when a particularly colorful one swam right up to my mask. Totally worth the near-drowning experience.
  • Midday: Virgin Island. Supposedly, the most beautiful place on earth. It’s… pretty. The sand is soft. The water is clear. The crowds are insane. Felt like a sardine in a can to some extent. Managed to find a quiet spot, though. A moment of serenity!
  • Afternoon: Panglao Island (again). Lunch at a beachside restaurant. Freshly grilled fish. Redemption! Soaking up the sun. Trying to ignore the sunburn creeping in (again).
  • Evening: Packing. Seriously? Already?! Time flies. Take one last walk on Alona Beach. Watch the sunset. The sky is all shades of orange and purple. Think about how I already miss this place. Mentally add ‘Bohol’ to the places I'll come back to, forever.

Day 4: Departure & Reflections (or, where the mess finally ends, kinda)

  • Morning: One last, sad, cup of instant coffee in the Peace Lily. Check out
  • Mid-morning: Trike back to the airport. Reflect on the near-death experience on the motorbike. Definitely not a natural. Give the driver a huge tip.
  • Afternoon: Flight. De-boarding the plane with a sunburn, a bruised knee, and a heart full of memories. This trip? It was a whirlwind. Beautiful, messy, and completely unforgettable. Would I change anything? Probably not. Except maybe the motorbike. And the mosquito bites. And the rubbery squid. But mostly… no. Bohol, you were amazing. Until next time!
Unbelievable! This 1,300-Year-Old Japanese Company Still Exists!
